Types
Types are logical organizational levels in your enterprise, such as region, division, store, area, or department.
- Click Main Menu
> Administration > Application Setup > Business Structure Represents the logical structure of an organization as it concerns staffing. It contains the locations and jobs to which an employee may be assigned. Setup > Jobs and Business Structure. - Select Manage
> Types. - Click Add
- In the New Type panel, complete the following fields:
- Hierarchy Order — Controls the order in which the types appear in the tree.
- A recommended practice is to create hierarchy order incrementally by 10 or 100 to allow for future growth or changes to the organization's Business Structure.
- Name — The name of the organizational level in your enterprise; for example, region, division, store, area and department.
- (Optional) Description — The description that further defines the organizational level.
- Location Category — Specify if the location type is a Site or a Department (or leave the selection blank if you do not need to specify a location category). Caution:
- Location category is required for use with forecasting. If you are using (or plan to use) forecasting, complete this field.
- To create work units of the Department type for Healthcare Analytics, you must specify that the location type is Department. See the Configure Work Units topic.
- Effective Date — Select the date when the type becomes valid. The default is the Beginning of time, but can be changed to a date in the future.
- Expiration Date — Select the date when the type is no longer valid. The default is Forever, but can be changed to a date in the future.
Note: The name must be unique between the type's effective date and expiration date. - Click Save.
- Click Main Menu
> Administration > Application Setup > Business Structure Setup > Jobs and Business Structure. - Select Manage
> Types. - Select a type, and click Update
- Make the necessary changes in the Edit Type panel.
- Gaps in a type's effective dates are not allowed if there are locations assigned to the type during that time.
- Click Save.
You can edit the Hierarchy Order, Name, and Description without effective dating. All other updates require effective dating (the current date or a date in the future).
When you make an update using effective dating (including the name and description) a revision is created. If you do not want a revision made, meaning you do not want the type to exist after the expiration date, then select the Last revision for this location check box. The Forever check box must be deselected to view this option. See Revisions for more information.
Note: The only edits you can make in the past are for Hierarchy Order, Name, and Description.
You can delete types with effective dates in the past (including today). You cannot delete a type if a location is using the type.
- Click Main Menu
> Administration > Application Setup > Business Structure Setup > Jobs and Business Structure. - Select Manage
> Types. - Select the type you want to delete from the list, then click Delete
- Click OK to confirm.
