Wi-Fi Networks
All Wi-Fi Networks are defined by a unique ESSID. The Wi-Fi Network contains one or more Wi-Fi Access Points throughout the geography of the network. Each Access Point has a unique BSSID (“MAC address").
You can set up a Wi-Fi Network in the system to use for Known Place validation. While this “Known Place Wi-Fi Network” that you set up in the system will access the existing Wi-Fi Network in the building, this Known Place Wi-Fi Network does not have to access the entire network. The Known Place Wi-Fi Network can be set up to use only some of the Access Points.
To create a Wi-Fi Network from Administration > Application Setup > Common Setup > WiFi Networks:
- Select Create. The Create Wi-Fi Network workspace appears.
- Enter a Name and a Description for the new network.
- Enter the ESSID of the existing network from which this new network is being created.
- Select the Access Points to include in this network. A selected Access Point is indicated by a check mark.
Note that you can create a WiFi Network with no selected Access Points. Although this would not be a working network, this is allowed for ease of setup; it allows you to set up networks and then go back later and add the Access Points. A working Wi-Fi Network must have at least one Access Point. - Save the new Wi-Fi Network.
Once saved, the Wi-Fi Network will be included in the list used to create the Known Place.
